Occasional anxiety is an expected part of life. You might feel anxious when faced with a problem at work, before taking a test, or before making an important decision. But anxiety disorders involve more than temporary worry or fear. For a person with an anxiety disorder, the anxiety does not go away and can get worse over time. The symptoms can interfere with daily activities such as job performance, schoolwork, and relationships.
Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a mental health condition that is caused by an extremely stressful or terrifying event, either being part of it or witnessing it. Symptoms man include flashbacks, nightmares, severe anxiety and uncontrollable thoughts about the event.
Trauma or a traumatic event is anything that severely threatens your existence or sense of safety. It doesn't have to be a single event (like a car accident) - it can be long0term trauma like living through war or frequent abuse. Trauma also does not have to happen directly to a person - a person could witness a traumatic event. One could also develop PTSD after learning that a traumatic event happened to a loved one.
Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by symptoms of inattention, hyperactivity, impulsivity, and emotional dysregulation that are excessive and pervasive, impairing in multiple contexts, and developmentally inappropriate. ADHD symptoms arise from executive dysfunction.
Impairments resulting from deficits in self-regulation such as time management, cognitive inhibition, task initiation, and sustained attention can include poor professional performance, relationship difficulties, and numerous helth risks, collectively predisposing to a diminished quality of life.
Addiction is a treatable, chronic medical disease characterized by compulsive engagement in rewarding behaviors (like watching porn) or substance use, despite the harmful consequences. It involves complex interaction among brain circuits, genetics, the environment, and individual life experiences.
When a person watches porn, their brain releases dopamine, a chemical that creates feelings of pleasure and reward. This dopamine reaction is similar to what happens when people use drugs or alcohol. Over time, the brain adapts to this dopamine rush and needs more stimulation to feel the same pleasure, which is called tolerance and can cause a person to need to watch more extreme or different content to get the same effect.
Vocational counseling is a professional employment service that helps individuals to develop employment skills, explore different career fields (career exploration), and find employment that best aligns with a person's interests and abilities. It involves assessing a person's strengths and providing guidance to navigate career options and training opportunities.
Anger can emotionally feel like annoyance, irritation, indignation, bitterness, rage, or fury. Anger isn't just emotional as it can have physical effects like increased heart rate, sweating, a clenched jaw, and elevated blood pressure. Inside a person's body, stress response hormones like adrenaline increase. Learning how to control and manage one's anger can be an essential part of living a balanced /happy life.
